you might remember about the rebirth of a classic italian marque ats which was announced a little more than a year ago. the team behind the project has now made themselves back to the radar with an announcement of the third model in a lineup – the 300 leggera. while the first two models are modern racing car (sport 1000) and an elegant coupe (2500 gt), the latest addition will be homage to the classic lightweight road and racing cars of the past. those vehicles also known under the name of “etceterini” featured sleek and stylish bodyworks, lightweight construction and good performance figures.
the 300 leggera will be just like one of those from the great fifties of sixties. the newest model to come from ats workshops will have no electronic devices or assistance systems. this pure drivers car will be powered by a front mid-mounted engine. a turbocharged 1600cc aggregate will give a maximum power of 200 hp. keeping a low curb weight of the 300 leggera (“light” in italian language) which is just 650 kg, ats engineers have achieved a power to weight ratio of 308 hp / 1000kg. hence the name of the car!
the company says they will offer the model for usa and european markets with first deliveries ready for 2014. asking price starts at 30.000 euro. not a bad deal for those enthusiastic drivers who have missed classic style, elegance and high performance.
